Tottenham Hotspur vs Bodo/Glimt Preview

  • Tournament: UEFA Europa League
  • Date: Thursday, 1 May 2025
  • Kick-Off Time: 19:00 PM GMT
  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to take an advantage in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinal when they host Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The match will take place on Thursday, 1 May 2025 at 19:00 PM GMT.

Spurs might be struggling in the Premier League, where they languish in 16th place with just 37 points from 33 games, but they're going strong in the Europa League. They've won seven of their 12 matches in Europe this season, scoring 22 goals and even defeating Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarterfinals.

They've won three of their last five Europa League matches and aim to get a big win over the Norwegian side. To do so, however, Ange Postecoglou will need his side to be at their clinical best in the final third. Tottenham will look to produce some exciting, fast-paced attacking football against Bodo/Glimt, but they need to be decisive in taking up their chances to get a dominant win.

Bodo/Glimt have proven themselves as the mighty underdogs of the 2024/25 Europa League campaign by becoming the first Norwegian side to reach the semifinals of the competition. They're in fifth place in the Norwegian Eliteserien with seven points from three games, but have reached the Europa League semis after winning eight of their 14 games so far.

Kjetil Knutsen will need his side to produce a defensive masterclass to have a chance of securing a positive result against Spurs. They have to be even sturdier at the back than they were in the quarterfinals against Lazio, which includes needing to mark the Spurs players tightly and neutralize their final product to have a chance of heading into the second leg with their heads held high.

Key Players to Watch in Tottenham Hotspur vs Bodo/Glimt

Dominic Solanke (Tottenham Hotspur)

Dominic
Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke (Image credit: Tottenham Hotspur |X)

Dominic Solanke has had a pretty decent outing in the Europa League this season, managing a 4.15 xG (expected goals) and scoring three goals with that. He came up big in the win over Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany and needs to be at his most prolific form against the Norwegian side to help his side get the upper hand.

Solanke will probably look to use his physicality and smart link-up style to drive his side forward into the key areas in the final third, but he also needs to be sharp with his movement and positioning to get himself into key goalscoring areas and finish off chances decisively.

Nikita Haikin (Bodo/Glimt)

Nikiita Haikin has played a crucial role in helping Bodo/Glimt reach the Europa League semifinals with his heroics this season. He's prevented 5.12 goals in Europe this season and also managed to average 4.3 saves per game! Haikin was excellent in the win over Lazio in helping his side win the penalty shootout.

He needs to continue his impressive form against Spurs, where he can expect a barrage of shots at his goal. The 29-year-old goalkeeper needs to be sharp with his reflexes and reactions, as well as maintaining his positioning smartly to pop up with key saves to frustrate the hosts and improve his side's chances of securing a positive result.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bodo/Glimt Prediction

As has been the case with Tottenham Hotspur this season, this match should also be an entertaining and highly eventful tie. Of course, the Premier League side should dominate the possession and dictate the game's pace, but Bodo/Glimt have shown themselves to have enough character to grind out a result.

However, Spurs' explosiveness and sheer high energy levels at their home ground should give them a slight edge in this one. They should be able to grind out a narrow win, setting up a potential thriller in the second leg too.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Bodo/Glimt
