Lowest scores in IPL history

Cricket fans love the thrill of high-scoring matches, big sixes, and close chases. The battle in the twenty-two yards is filled with drama, which is further fuelled by the T20 format. The game can take on any form and lead to unpredictable outcomes. But sometimes, the game takes a completely different turn—teams collapse, wickets tumble, and we witness some of the lowest scores in IPL history.

Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has seen aggressive batting. The tone was set from the very first game when Brendon McCullum unleashed fire with his bat in the Chinnaswamy. Most batters as they have followed this template, tried to charge towards the bowler from the very first ball.

However, there have been times when the batting team faltered and the bowling team came out on top. Ever wondered what went wrong on those fateful days? Let's take a trip down memory lane and relive the most shocking batting collapses in IPL history. In this article, we will find out what is the lowest score in IPL?

List of Lowest Score in IPL History

The Indian Premier League has been famous for its higher scoring encounters, however, there were many incidents when the batters were outplayed by the bowlers, and in this article, we will cover the top 10 lowest scores in IPL history.

IPL 2017 saw a record number of batting collapses where batsmen were trumped by bowlers. During one of the matches, Punjab's batter went through a nightmarish journey as they faced the wrath of the RPS bowlers. Facing Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in Pune, KXIP lost five wickets within the powerplay itself, managing just 73 runs in 15.5 overs. Axar Patel’s 22 was the only notable contribution. Pune chased the target with ease in 12 overs.

The next lowest score on this list would be RCB's paltry total of 70 runs against RR. This time, they folded for 70 in 15 overs against the Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi. Pravin Tambe’s 4/21 led RR’s dominant bowling display, and the target was chased down with ease.

Another painful memory for RCB fans! In the opening match of IPL 2019 at Chepauk, CSK’s spin attack wreaked havoc. RCB were dismissed for just 70 runs in 17.1 overs, with Parthiv Patel (29) being the only batter to cross double digits. The likes of Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir ensured a comfortable win for CSK.

RCB seems to have a love-hate relationship with low scores. In 2022, they registered another humiliating collapse, getting bowled out for 68 runs in 16.1 overs against SRH at Brabourne Stadium. Extras were their second-highest contributor, with 12! SRH comfortably chased it down in 8 overs, winning by nine wickets.

6. Kolkata Knight Riders – 67 All Out vs Mumbai Indians (2008)

KKR fans, look away! The team’s worst IPL batting performance came in 2008 at the Wankhede Stadium against MI. Chasing a moderate target, KKR were bowled out for just 67 in 15.2 overs. The damage was done early, and MI made light work of the chase, thanks to Sanath Jayasuriya’s explosive 48 off 17 balls.

2017 was a rough year for Delhi Daredevils, as they recorded another sub-70 total just weeks later. Batting first against KXIP (now Punjab Kings) in Mohali, DD collapsed to 67 all out in 17.1 overs. Sandeep Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief, picking up 4/20. Punjab chased down the target in just 7.5 overs, handing Delhi another embarrassing defeat.

IPL 2017 saw another humiliating collapse, this time involving Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). MI posted a daunting 212/3, thanks to power-packed innings from Lendl Simmons (66) and Kieron Pollard (63). In response, DD just couldn’t handle the pressure, crashing to 66 all out in 13.4 overs, which is the 4th lowest score in IPL. Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma ran through their lineup, ensuring MI’s massive 146-run win.

3. Rajasthan Royals | 59 All Out vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2023)

Rajasthan Royals once again found themselves on the wrong side of history in 2023. This time, it was a disaster at Jaipur. Chasing 172 against RCB, RR's batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards, getting dismissed for just 59 runs in 10.3 overs, which was one of the lowest team scores in IPL. Both openers went for ducks, and none of the batters showed any resistance. RCB bowlers had a field day, sealing a massive 112-run victory.

Before RCB's infamous collapse, Rajasthan Royals held the record for the lowest IPL total. Back in 2009, during the South African leg of the IPL, RR were bundled out for just 58 runs in 15.1 overs against RCB. The hero of the match? The legendary Anil Kumble, who took a mind-blowing 5/5! To make matters worse for RR, RCB had only managed a modest 133/8 in their innings. Rahul Dravid top-scored with 66, proving why he was ‘The Wall.’ But Rajasthan's batters had no answer to Kumble’s magic, folding up in what was then the lowest total in IPL history.

Ah, the infamous 49 all-out. If you're an RCB fan, you probably still have nightmares about this one. On April 23, 2017, at Eden Gardens, RCB were set a modest target of 132 by KKR. Should have been easy, right? Wrong! The team crumbled for just 49 runs in 9.4 overs—the lowest score in IPL history. Not a single batter reached double digits, with Kedar Jadhav's nine being the highest. Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes, and Colin de Grandhomme ripped through the lineup, taking three wickets each. It was a day to forget for RCB, and one which KKR fans will never stop celebrating.

What is the Lowest Score in IPL 2025?

The lowest team score of the season so far for the IPL 2025 is 95 runs, and that came from none other than the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This unusually low score was against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a game played at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Lowest score in IPL playoffs

In the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 match on May 29, 2025, Punjab Kings were all out for 101 runs in 14.1 overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, marking the 2nd lowest score in an IPL Qualifier 1 playoff match, surpassing the previous record in IPL playoffs. The collapse was driven by careless batting and poor shot selection, with only three batters reaching double digits, as RCB's bowlers, including Suyash Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal, dominated on a pitch that offered some assistance.
