The Detroit Pistons selected Andre as the ninth overall pick from the 2012 NBA Draft class. In March 2014, Drummond performed one of the best performances of his career defense-wise, grabbing 26 boards in a game against the New York Knicks. In December 2014, he became the first Pistons player with at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in a game since Dennis Rodman in 1990–91. Notably, he had dumped 33 points and 21 rebounds in a win over the Chicago Bulls.

In March 2019, Drummond reached 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 100 blocks, and 100 steals for the fourth season of his career. It was the most number of mentioned stats in NBA history since steals and blocks were first recorded in the 1973–74 season. When the Cleveland Cavaliers signed with Drummond in February 2020, they did not sign him to a multi-year contract. Rather, both Andre and the franchise agreed to a buyout for a year.

After that, he played for a single season or less with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Brooklyn Nets. Then, in July 2022, the Chicago Bulls front office signed Andre Drummond for a two-year $6.6 million contract. The next destination for Andre was the Philadelphia 76ers with which he signed in July last year and has been with them since then. Notably, he also set a franchise record by attempting 36 free throws in December 2016.

In 2017, he became the first player to record such stats(30 points, 24 rebounds, six blocked shots) in a game since 1973–74, when the NBA first began to record blocks and steals.
