Oklahoma City Thunder Famous Players

The talent in this team isn't just restricted to its in-the-court superstars but also the team of scouts and coaches that are responsible for drafting a core of very talented young ballers from the draft almost every year , let us take a quick look at the history of the list of players above.

Kevin Durant

Kevin Wayne Durant aka KD aka the best scorer in the history of basketball can create space with his bag and pull up for a trey or a mid-range shot at practically any part of the basketball game. The two-time NBA champ with the Golden State Warriors was originally a part of and drafted by The previous incarnation of The Thunder in the Seattle Supersonics. KD's departure from OKC in 2016 was one of the most controversial trades to ever take place in the league's history ranking right alongside the 2025 Luka Doncic to Lakers trade.

The Warriors were considered conference rivals at the time and the duo of slasher Russel Westbrook and shooter Kevin Durant had become the narrative and storyline for the OKC fans to look forward to in their future.

Russel Westbrook

Russel Westbrook aka Brody was an absolute beast and triple-double machine, in the 2016-2017 season he earned the NBA Most Valuable Award (MVP). The nine-time NBA All-Star had the explosiveness that could be a handful for any team to deal with and combined with his ability to drop dimes, Brody was unstoppable inside the paint.

Number 0 wore the Oklahoma jersey for 11 years. Although his individual numbers were so good that they made it straight to the record books the team as a collective was not a title contender and even in his MVP season, he was a 47-win 6th seed.

Gary Payton

Gary ‘The Glove’ Payton was the second overall pick in the 1990 NBA draft by the Seattle Supersonics. He spent a little over 12 seasons with the team where he established himself as one of the league's top point guards after struggling for the initial 2 seasons. He earned his first of 9 consecutive All-NBA team selections when he was chosen to the All-NBA Third team in 1994. He won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1996.

He was a member of the gold medal-winning team in 1996 and 2000 U.S. Men's Olympic Basketball Teams. In that 1996 season Payton led the Sonics to a franchise record 64 games won in the regular season and even went to the finals where he was defeated by Michael Jordan's team Chicago Bulls.

Paul Groge or “PG13” was Oklahoma's attempt at replacing the loss of Kevin Durant with another all-star. The OKC acquired PG from the Indiana Pacers on July 6, 2017, in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantis Sabonis. George's start at OKC was a blistering success and made for an inspirational athlete resilience story after his career-ending injury during the 2014-2015 off-season while training for the upcoming FIBA World Cup in Spain at the time.

While playing for The Thunders for only two seasons PG was an All-NBA caliber guard for the team averaging MVP numbers in the 2019 season finishing third in the race while being the league's top 2-way player. George's career and story are one of preserving and resilience and leaving fans to wonder what all he could have accomplished if injuries were not in question.
